About us
We all know the feeling: you book a room at a highly rated hotel — and end up right next to the elevator. Or with a view of the courtyard instead of the sea. Or in a room that clearly hasn't been renovated in years, while the room three doors down is brand new.
Hotel reviews rate hotels. But you don't sleep in a hotel — you sleep in a room.
rate-A-place closes this gap. We are a platform where travelers rate individual hotel rooms — with room number, photos, and precise details on location, amenities, and condition. Not the hotel. The room.
Whether it's noise level, blackout options, bed quality, bathroom amenities, or the direct view of the street: every review delivers the information you actually need before booking.
Founded by frequent travelers who were tired of trusting the luck of room assignment. Built for everyone who cares about a good night's sleep.
Frequently asked questions
- What is rate-a-place.com?
- A platform for honest, photo-backed reviews of individual hotel rooms. Instead of rating an entire hotel, guests do a standardised photo tour (door, interior, bed, bathroom) of the exact room they stayed in and answer structured questions about cleanliness, noise and comfort.
- How is rate-a-place different from TripAdvisor or Booking.com?
- Classic portals rate hotels as a whole — you learn the hotel averages 8.3 out of 10, but not whether your specific room is noisy or has mould in the bathroom. We collect room-level reviews with photos. Before booking, you see how a real room actually looks.
- Who can post a review?
- Any signed-in user who actually stayed at the hotel. When you submit, you upload room photos — that is the evidence anchor. No photo tour, no published review.
- Are reviews verified?
- Every review goes through moderation: automated content checks on the photos plus human review by our team. Weak, manipulated, or operator-authored reviews get rejected.
- Is it free?
- Yes. Reading and writing reviews is free. Hotel listings in the standard catalogue are also free for operators.
- How do I list my hotel?
- Go to “Register a hotel” and submit your URL — our scraper pulls the name, address and cover image automatically. After moderation, your property is publicly listed and can be reviewed by guests.
